Talking with Teens... About Depression and Suicide

Adolescent depression and suicide will be addressed in the context of a framework that encompasses physical, social, and emotional development. Trends in the prevalence of adolescent suicide, and factors that contribute to adolescent depression and suicide are a focus of the training. Warning signs and symptoms, and strategies for effective assessment of suicidal intention, are addressed to build skills in recognizing depression and suicidal behavior, and responding appropriately for the situation.

Certificates of contact hours will be provided to all participants who attend an entire training.  Cancellations must be received one week before the training date for a refund. Refunds are subject to a $20 handling fee.

DeMystifying Adolescence

               Demystifying Adolescence trainings are composed of one or more of the twelve curriculum modules, based on the unique needs of those requesting the training.  Individual modules can be presented in one to three hours, depending on the depth and breadth of the contect covered.  The entire training of all twelve modules can be presented within a two day training.  Modules include topics such as: Physical Growth and Development; Social and Emotional Development; Cognitive and Brain Development; Nutritional Needs and Issues of Adolescents; Promoting Resiliency in Youth; Adolescent Decision Making; Assesssing Adolescent's Social Context; Risk Behaviors in Adolescence; Legal Issues and the Adolesent; Communicating with Adolescents; and Implications for Prevention and Intervention.

               The goal of this interactive training is to increase participants' knowledge of the developmental process of adolescence, and use this knowledge to communicate more effectively with teens. Topics include adolescents' physical, social, and emotional development, and what motivates adolescents to behave in various ways, including engaging in risk behaviors. To help build skills, teens participate in structured role-play activities, which address common scenarios that challenge adult-adolescent communication.

PACT Facilitator Training

Positive Adolescent Choices Training (P.A.C.T.) is a violence prevention program for youth ages 10-18 with three components: anger management, violence risk education and social skills development. The program is implemented in settings where youth can meet in small groups for 8-16 sessions. Participants who attend this one-day training will be prepared to effectively implement and facilitate a PACT program.
